Seattle Adventure with my Mom!

Hello! The Adventuress returns! Close to two months later. Oops.

In the past couple of months I’ve been working more and saving more, AND I went on a road trip!

My mom is one of my favorite adventure buddies, so why not take her on an adventure with me! Our road trip took us to the very rainy city of Seattle to do all the fun tourist stuff with their CityPASS, and then, of course, have nice lazy nights in.

Here’s a brief look at what happened on the adventure:

First stop was the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP). This was a picture that I took outside of the building and you get a small part of the Space Needle as well. The colors and interesting design of the building is really cool! The design came from breaking guitars and putting the pieces in odd places against each other to create the interesting shape and the colors used are meant to represent American Rock N’ Roll.
There is an exhibition space at MoPOP that changes every couple of months, and the current exhibit is Marvel! There’s an entire section of the museum dedicated to the Marvel comics and how it got started and when the all sorts of different characters were introduced. There was also a lot of the actual costumes from Marvel movies on display, which was super cool because you could see so much of the detail that you don’t see in the movies. Pictured above is Star Lord’s Walkman from the Guardians of the Galaxy.
One more MoPOP thing... There’s also a section for fantasy and fairytale stuff and one of the things they had was Inigo Montoya’s, Buttercup’s, and Wesley’s costumes!
Our next stop was the Chihuly Glass and Garden. All of the pieces in the museum are glass blown/sculpted by an artist named Dale Chihuly. One of the installments is a bunch of small pieces that are placed on a glass roof that you get to walk under (which is why my hair is falling into my face in the picture :P).

This was another installment in the museum that mom and I were both amazed by. Sadly I didn’t think to get a picture of the name of it so that I could add it here, but it reminded me and mom of the candy forest room in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory because of all the candy-like colors and shapes.
The next day we went to the Seattle Space Needle (of course) in the morning. They recently replaced the revolving restaurant with a glass floor that rotates slowly. Here’s a picture that I took looking down through the floor. It was a little scary at first, but you get used to it after a few minutes.
Next we went to the Seattle Aquarium, where we got to experience octopus feeding time! Sadly didn’t get a picture, but it was really cool seeing the octopus change colors from a white when sleeping to a redish orange color once she was awake and had its attention on eating the fish. While there we also saw the tiny pufferfish in the picture above. His eyes looked like blue sparkly glitter glue and he was just swimming around looking really happy!
Another Seattle must: visit the Pike Place Market! We didn’t explore all of it, only the top floor, but wow is there a lot to take in. There are artists, flower venders, people selling jam, leather journals, fish markets...There’s even this one vender that sells these little felt dessert animals (for example, a felt donut with a cat face and cat ears)!
The last thing we did on day two in the city was go back up the Space Needle as the sun was setting and once it was dark. The city wasn’t really brightly lit up, but the Space Needle all lit up was very pretty!
On our last day we packed up and headed to the Woodland Park Zoo. A word of advice: don’t go when it’s cold and rainy. A lot of the animals were sleeping or weren’t in a place in their enclosures where you could see them (and I don’t blame them, cuz no one wants to be cold and/or wet if they don’t have to be). It was like that scene in Jurassic Park where Ian Malcolm is saying “Now eventually you might have dinosaurs on your dinosaur tour, right?”
Another word of advice: during giraffe feeding season (starting towards the beginning of October), DON’T go on a Tuesday, ‘cause they don’t do it then. I accidentally misread that on the website and thought they only didn’t do it at 4pm. I did get to feed this cute little penguin though!

Once we were done at the zoo we headed for Coeur d’Alene for a night before taking the scenic drive home back to Boise. But before we went home, we went to the candy store that we always stop by when we’re in town, Mrs. Honeypeep’s, and Summer’s Glass, another cute little shop we always hit, where they sell all sorts of little glass figurines, jewelry and ornaments.

And that was our Seattle adventure! I had long been waiting to go on this trip with my mom and it was really hard to wait, but well worth it. Stay tuned for my Silver Falls State Park, Oregon camping adventure and big news about what I’ll be up to Spring 2019!

Where we ate: Taco Chukis
Five Point Cafe
Molly Moon’s Homemade Ice Cream - make sure you drive to get here, because it’s at the top of this REALLY big and REALLY steep hill. Trust me - you don’t want to walk there if you’re coming from Chihuly Glass and Garden.
Mashawi - an amazing little Mediterranean food restaurant. A little spendy, and expect to have leftovers or share with a friend because of bigger serving sizes.
Fisherman’s Bar and Grill
Atilano’s - good tacos in Coeur d’Alene.

Small things we did: Learned about Nirvana and Jimi Hendrix at MoPOP
Listened to The Green Mile by Stephen King on the drive to Seattle and Coeur d’Alene
Watched ER, The Blair Witch Project, The Full Monty, and Letters to Juliet
Tried Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Jelly Beans
